FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Getting Started

  • See our Getting Started page or click here to schedule a free consultation phone call or your initial assessment.

  • You will receive an email detailing how to get your labs drawn at a LabCorp facility near you.

  • For the Comprehensive Health Assessment, your labs will include: red blood cells, white blood cells and other immune cells, electrolytes, kidney and liver function, diabetes and insulin resistance markers, inflammatory markers, vitamin deficiencies (such as D and B12), iron levels, and hormone levels.

  • At MTN HLTH we prioritize preventive medicine and avoiding future health problems. Our unique lab panels provide an in-depth understanding of your metabolic status, hormone levels and function, and risk of insulin resistance and inflammation. These results are more comprehensive and informative than your “average” lab panel ordered for general health screening.

  • Yes, telehealth is always an option.

  • We are currently licensed in Utah and Washington. However, regardless of location, we can obtain labs and complete your initial visit to assess health status and provide a treatment plan.

If you don’t live in either Utah or Washington, we can proceed with treatment as long as we see you in person for your initial visit.

We are in the process of becoming licensed in other states as well.

  • We focus on wellness rather than illness. We view this as a partnership, coaching you based on your needs. Your treatment plan is entirely focused on improving your quality of life. Our goal is to help you become the healthiest version of yourself. Click to read more about Our Mission.

  • We are value driven, not volume driven. The best results are achieved when you take responsibility for your health. An interest in one’s health is a requirement for treatment.

Hormones

  • BHRT — Bio-identical Hormone Replacement Therapy is the specialized art of restoring the body to optimal levels of these important messenger molecules. Bio-identical hormones are derived from natural sources and are exact copies of the hormones that are found in the human body. This means that bio-identical hormones are used, metabolized, and excreted in the same way our natural hormones are. These biologically identical hormones have the exact same benefits and effects as our own — unlike synthetic hormones that try to mimic natural hormones, but have different side effect and safety profiles. See our Hormone Optimization page.

  • BHRT is a specialized art of medicine that requires specialized training and education. Medical practitioners get very little training in hormone replacement, if any at all, during their many years medical education. Western medicine mostly focuses on the treatment of illness, not prevention. The safety and benefits of BHRT are widely documented throughout the medical literature, yet are often overlooked for more conventional, pharmaceutical therapies.

  • “Normal” is a term which is used to describe a statical average. Current statistics demonstrate that more than two-thirds of U.S. adults are either overweight or have obesity. Therefore, in 2023, it is “normal” to be metabolically unwell and overweight/obese. But clearly, carrying excess body fat is not “optimal.” That which is considered “normal” by today’s standards is much different than past generations. The same is true for “normal” hormone lab values. For instance, 400 ng/dL is considered a normal testosterone level for a 40 year old man. But is that optimal? The evidence would suggest otherwise. For more info, check out our Normal vs Optimal video.

  • When it comes to BHRT, the dose, route of administration, and timing all play into the symphony of hormone balancing. At MTN HLTH we practice evidence-based medicine to achieve optimal results. We also believe it’s important for you to know WHAT you’re taking and WHY. We will provide resources and help you understand the purpose of every treatment recommendation.

  • Semaglutide (brand name: Wegovy & Ozempic) and tirzepatide (brand name: Zepbound/Mounjaro) are once weekly injections that are used along WITH nutritious eating and exercise to help people struggling with weight gain to achieve and maintain a healthier weight. These medications are in a class of medications called incretin mimetics. They work by assisting the body with blood sugar and insulin regulation. They also work by slowing the movement of food through the stomach, and decreasing appetite.

  • Among other things, semaglutide and tirzepatide suppress your appetite, slow down digestion making you feel full longer, clear insulin from the blood, and prevent the liver from releasing glucagon (stored glucose) after a meal. See our TikTok video of our Nurse Practitioner Joe explaining Semaglutide.

  • MIC (or LIPO-C) has three compounds: Methionine, Inositol, and Choline. These compounds help your body release fatty deposits and increase the rate and efficiency at which you burn fat.

Vitamin B12 further stimulates your metabolism, gives you energy, and can help mitigate the side effects that sometimes accompany semaglutide.

Check out our blog post about Vitamin B12 + MIC for more info.

  • Semaglutide and tirzepatide are injected subcutaneously (into fat) once per week.

MIC + B12 can be injected subcutaneously (into fat) or intramuscularly (into muscle) 1-2x/week.

  • This depends on your current health status, your goal weight, activity level, and nutritional status. As a general rule, we recommend using medical weight loss as a gradual weight loss tool with the ability to maintain your weight for a couple months before discontinuing treatment. Using the medical weight loss tools this way will help you maintain the weight loss you’ve achieved.

  • Women who are actively trying to get pregnant or who are not using a reliable form of birth control cannot be on semaglutide (Ozempic) or tirzepatide (Mounjaro).

  • Yes, there are many different options to treat obesity and weight gain. We will discuss options with you and help you determine the best way to move forward.

  • Weight gain must be treated like any other chronic condition. It requires consistent effort and coaching. Some of the tools we use with our patients are medications, hormone optimization, and activity and nutritional counseling. Check out our Weight Management page for more information.

Testosterone Optimization

  • Benefits of testosterone optimization for both men and women include improvements in: energy level, muscle strength, fat breakdown, libido, skin tone, endurance, insulin utilization, cognition, mental health, and overall quality of life.

  • The research is clear that the lower a person’s testosterone level, the greater the likelihood of cardiovascular disease (including heart attacks and strokes). Low testosterone puts you at risk for: heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, coronary artery disease, prostate cancer, obesity, chronic inflammation, Alzheimer’s, osteoporosis, and metabolic syndrome.

  • When you utilize TRT (Testosterone Replacement Therapy), the body will decrease its natural production of testosterone and sperm production. This is the cause of “potential infertility.” We use medications such as Enclomiphene, Clomid, and HCG either alone or in combination with TRT to maintain (or increase) fertility in our patients.

  • At MTN HLTH, we prescribe testosterone in the form of a compounded cream or injection.

  • The initial cost is $99 for the lab panel. The Testosterone Optimization Assessment (or consultation) with the provider is complimentary and provided for free. Click here to schedule your assessment now.

During Treatment

  • When utilizing BHRT (Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy), most patients notice improvement in symptoms within 3-6 months. However, it’s important to note that treatment success is best achieved when coupled with good lifestyle habits.

  • Communication with your provider is unlimited and provided through our HIPAA-secure messaging app Spruce.

  • Many clinics require their patients to be seen in person frequently in order to charge them per visit. MTN HLTH is a concierge medical clinic which means you have unlimited access directly to your provider.

  • Yes. We want our care to be as convenient as possible. All follow up visits with MTN HLTH providers can be completed via phone call or video visit.

Pricing & Billing

  • See our Getting Started page to learn more about what’s included in each assessment and pricing info.

  • We do not bill your insurance company. We are a cash-based practice only.

Explanation: At MTN HLTH, the patient and the provider work TOGETHER to develop a customized plan; without a third party. Although health insurance is important to have, especially when it comes to “sick care,” it is not very useful for a clinic like ours where the focus is on “well-care.”

  • Yes! You can pay for any MTN HLTH service with an HSA (Health Savings Account) card.

  • You may cancel your membership at any time by notifying us prior to your next bill date. We hate to see you go and will provide every effort to find a treatment plan for you.
